You Are What You Drink

When choosing a drink, help to protect your teeth and reduce decay by following these tips:

  • Drink soft drinks in moderation.
  • Don’t sip for extended periods of time.  Ongoing sipping prolongs sugar and acid attacks on your teeth.
  • Never drink pop or juice right before bedtime.  The liquid pools in your mouth, coating your tongue and teeth with sugar and acid.
  • Consider using a straw to reduce the sugar contact with your teeth.
  • Chew sugarless gum after drinking soft drinks to stimulate saliva production.
  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks.  Water has no sugar, acid, or calories.
  • And, as always, remember to have regular dental exams and cleanings to remove plaque.
