Most people don’t know if they have periodontal/gum disease or not. There is usually no pain involved so the patient is not aware of it. The only way to know if you have periodontal/gum disease is to go to the dentist and have radiographs (x-rays) taken (to see if there has been any bone loss around the teeth) and perio charting done. Normal measurement between the gum and tooth should be 1-3 mm’s. If your measurements are over 3 mm’s you have some form of periodontal/gum disease.
