CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction) is a dental restoration product that allows dentists to use computer assisted technologies. In some cases we can use CAD/CAM technology to make tooth-colored crowns and onlays in just one appointment. Some of the benefits of this technology are that there is no need for a temporary, there is a minimal amount of preparation needed to the tooth, and they are very accurate, in addition to being very quick and convenient for patients.
We prepare the tooth and then spray powder on it so we can take virtual impressions. The software then designs the restoration and it is milled out of a block of porcelain in about 5 to 10 minutes. Once it is milled out, we try it in the mouth, make any needed adjustments, and then bond it into place.
Technology is getting better all the time!
