Is brushing with baking soda safe???
Dental professionals do not recommend the use of plain baking soda as a toothpaste. Baking soda is an abrasive agent that can cause wear on the enamel of teeth and damage to gum tissue. Baking soda will not whiten teeth. Due to baking soda’s abrasiveness, it may possibly remove some surface stain from things like coffee or tea. The best way to whiten teeth is to use professional whitening trays made by your dental office. Also, using baking soda only instead of toothpaste does not provide any fluoride for your teeth. Enamel wear and lack of fluoride puts a person at a higher risk for cavities. So please use an ADA approved toothpaste that contains fluoride.
